SIU breaks ground on new student services building
CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS)- A state of the art building will soon stand big and tall on the Southern Illinois University campus.
Leaders broke ground Monday morning for a new student services building.
This is on the northeast of the current student center.
SIU Chancellor Rita Cheng says this will be a new student services building.
It will house offices all in one location, hopefully making it easier for students to register, attend open houses and pay fees.
"This is just ideal," Cheng said. "It's just an ideal location and we envision so much less frustration by incoming students and parents as well as our current students."
The construction should cost $36.6 million.
This building is expected to be completed in fall of 2013.
