Drums at Appletime features 15 bands

Drums at Appletime features 15 bands

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - The Murphysboro Apple Festival will feature 15 bands performing at this year's Drums at Appletime.

Festival organizers say participants will be coming from all over the region and will include a performance from the college marching band McKendree University.

The Apple Festival also announced there will be a new award added in addition to the Marion Nash Grand Champion. The new award is called the Drums at Appletime Grand Champion. The winner of the new award will be based on total points during the field show portion only.

Nick Williams, Murphysboro High School’s Crimson Express Assistant Director, and Apple Festival Band Competitions Coordinator, continues to work to improve the contest.

Deputies investigate 3 crashes involving motorcycles

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department is investigating three different crashes, all involving motorcycles.

On August 26th, a man from Oraville was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle.

According to the sheriff's department, 67-year-old Carolus Bond was driving southbound on Saupe road when he lost control. Bond was flown to a St. Louis hospital where he died of his injuries.

On Sunday, August 28th, deputies were called to Route 127, just north of the Union County line for a report of a motorcycle crash. It happened just before 3:30 p.m. Investigators say 49-year-old James Masters of Anna was driving through a parking lot when he hit a parked car and kept driving.

According to the sheriff's department, Masters lost control of his motorcycle as he drove onto Route 127 and crashed his bike. He was taken to a St. Louis hospital with major injuries.

Man killed after motorcycle crash in Jackson County

A Jackson County man is dead following a motorcycle crash Friday in Jackson County.

It happened at he intersection of Saupe and McLaughlin Roads.

The driver was going southbound on Saupe Road when he lost control, according to the sheriff's office.

Carolus Bond, 67, of Oraville was flown to a St. Louis hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Jackson County Ambulance Service.

Features of the Enjoy Illinois app include:

  • Near Me navigation: Utilizes location-based/GPS searches to view attractions nearby and filter listings by interest.
  • Browse by Interest:  Organizes the listings by category so users can view attractions based on interests, such as Accommodations, Arts & Culture, Attractions, Dining and Nightlife.
  • Browse by Region:  Enables exploration of listings by region.
  • My Trips feature:  Allows user to create a custom itinerary list to share via social media (Twitter, Facebook) or by email.
