Jackson Co. State's Attorney not running for re-election

Jackson County State's Attorney Mike Wepsiec announced Friday afternoon that he will not seek re-election in 2012.

According to Wepsiec the number one reason is family. He says the job is 24/7 and he's missed enough holidays, weekends, evenings etc. away from his family preparing for trials, interviewing witnesses and overseeing crime scenes with police.

H also says it's time for new blood. He's been State's Attorney for 17 1/2 years and maybe new people will bring new ideas.

When his term wraps up on November 30, 2012, he'll have served a total of 19 years. He'll be leaving on his own terms and he'll have the honor of being the longest running state's attorney in Jackson county for at least the last 50 years. He says that means it's time for him to go.

What will he do next? He's not sure. Wepsiec says stay tuned and we'll know that December 1, 2012.
