Global Leadership Summit

Global Leadership Summit

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Global Leadership Summit will be held at La Croix Church in Cape Girardeau August 11 and 12.

The summit is ran by a not-for-profit Christian Organization known as the Willow Creek Association from the Chicago area and has been held annually since 1995.

According to the La Croix Church, they are expecting over 600 area leaders to attend this years event. It will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Monday is FEMA deadline for Ill. residents

For those who still need assistance with flooding or storm damage, there's still time to get help but the deadline is fast approaching.

For Illinois residents, the deadline for individual assistance is Monday, Aug. 8.

That's for homeowners or renters.

You can visit FEMA's website, or call (800) 621-3362 to register.

Carl Henderson with FEMA says $15.5 million has already been awarded to residents in southern Illinois for disaster assistance.

In Mo. the deadline for applications is August 26.

Mother, daughter tea at Carterville Community Center

Mother, daughter tea at Carterville Community Center

CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) - The Women's Center will be hosting a Mother and Daughter Tea on August 7.

The tea will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carterville Community Center located at 120 North Greenbriar

Cristaudo's will be catering and the tea will include music, a raffle and shopping.

The center will also hold a centerpiece competition. Participating ladies are encouraged to create a centerpiece for their table and the winning designer will get two tickets to the annual Taste of Chocolate event on February 3, 2012.

The raffle will feature two tickets to the Little Black Dress Party on September 9 at Walker's Bluff.

Advanced tickets for the tea are $20 for adults and $15 for ladies under 12.

Monthly chamber members luncheon

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The August Monthly Member's Luncheon will be Tuesday, August 9.

The luncheon will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carbondale Civic Center. This month's program will include "Saluki Pride" and feature speakers from SIU and the SIU Athletics Department.

It will cost $10 for chamber members who RSVP and $15 for non-members or those who don't RSVP.

Carbondale trash pickup dates extended

Carbondale trash pickup dates extended

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The city of Carbondale will be extending their trash pickup an extra week.

To keep the city clean, the Refuse and Recycling Division will conduct a Special Refuse Collection Program to pick up trash curbside around the city. Regular patrols will begin Monday, August 8 and continue through Sunday, August 28.

Patrols will be seven days a week if determined necessary by city staff.

Within the guidelines of the program, curbside trash will be removed and the property owner of record will be billed based on the time it takes at each location. All collections will be timed and billed to the property owner of record at the city's special pickup rate which is $13.50 for up to two minutes and $6.75 per minute thereafter, rounded up to the next whole minute.

Under the program, collection will include:

  • Trash not placed curbside by 8 a.m.

SIUC Commencement Ceremony on Saturday

SIUC Commencement Ceremony on Saturday

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The Southern Illinois University Carbondale will hold their commencement ceremony on Saturday, August 6.

The ceremony will start at 9:30 a.m. and will be at the SIU Arena.

SIUC says there are about 1,720 candidates for degrees featuring undergraduates from each of the university's eight colleges and the SIU School of Law. The master's and doctoral candidates will participate in a combined ceremony.

About 1,234 candidates for bachelor's degrees, 36 candidates for associate degrees, 383 candidates for master's degrees, 65 for doctoral degrees and two for law degrees.

The ceremonies are free and open to the public.
