IDOT: Delays expected for IL-149

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced drivers can expect delays on IL-149 on Friday, June 24.

Those driving west of Murphysboro can expect delays because maintenance crews will be working on pavement reconstruction.

IDOT said emergency vehicles will be allowed through the construction site as quickly as possible.

According to IDOT, through traffic should find alternate routes.

More flood assistance on the way to So. Ill

Tractors continue to work through the night to power pumps that are moving water over the levee and back into the Mississippi River near Gale.

And with some of the Heartland still under water, help form the government is being provided to southern Illinois.

Beginning this Thursday - FEMA is meeting with local officials to help them get federal money that will pay for up to 75 percent of their costs they've endured during this disaster.

FEMA will be in Centralia on Thursday, with visits scheduled to Carterville, Shawnee College, Murphysboro, and Harrisburg next week.

These meetings are for local officials to get help from FEMA, and are not open to the public.

Unemployed due to flooding may be eligible for assistance

(KFVS) - Residents and business owners out of work because of severed storms and flooding in April and May in 14 southern Illinois counties could be eligible for federal disaster assistance.

The federal government declared Alexander, Franklin, Gallatin, Hardin, Jackson, Lawrence, Massac, Perry, Pople Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, White and Williamson counties disaster areas after the rains and flooding that occurred beginning April 19.

Those people whose employment or self-employment was lost or interrupted because of the rain and flooding in those 14 counties could be eligible for financial assistance.

The federal disaster declaration allows people in the area to access to temporary housing, grants or loans to help with flood-related losses.

Businesses might qualify for low-interest loans.

Applications are available at Illinois Department of Employment Security offices from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

Boil water order for Murphsboro

Boil water order for Murphsboro

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - The city of Murphysboro issued a boil order on Monday.

From Orange Road to 1975 Business Highway 13 is under the order.

According to the city, a broken water main caused the boil water order.

Ambassador's Committee meeting

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The Ambassador's Committee will have their monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 21.

The meeting will be at the chamber office from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

There was some damage reported with area storms in the Heartland this weekend. Power outages and wind damage were reported in Mo. and  Ill. into mid-Sunday morning.

Police: Carbondale man fails to register as sex offender

The City of Carbondale Police Department conducted compliance checks of all registered sex offenders on June 14, 2011 who reside in the Carbondale. Police say one offender was found to be non-compliant. 

Paris A. Thomas was found to be non-compliant and was located and arrested, according to Carbondale Police.  He was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

There are currently 39 registered sex offenders who reside in Carbondale, according to police.

The Carbondale Police Department conducted the operation with the cooperation and assistance of the United States Marshal Service and the Southern Illinois University Department of Public Safety under the auspices of the Adam Walsh Child Protection Safety Act of 2006.

Police say the goal of the operation was to ensure the safety of the members of our community by obtaining 100% compliance of sex offenders who reside in Carbondale.
