MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - The Historic Liberty Theater is showing two locally shot vintage movies during this year's Murphysboro Apple Festival.

"Murphysboro 1926" and "Murphysboro 1938" are on the playbill during the festival.

"Murphysboro 1926" was shot by traveling film-makers after a devastating tornado had struck the town. The film documents group student  pictures, worshipers leaving Sunday services, the old street car tracks and store fronts.

"Murphsyboro 1938" is a montage of mostly amateur films which were found in bits and pieces and restored.

Lois Murphy, director of the Historic Liberty Theater said the films were "stunning" and of interest to all local residents because of the footage of vintage vehicles, apparel and customs of the "good old days".

Murphy said the Jackson County Historical Society made the showing of the films possible.

The films will be shown twice daily at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13 and Friday, Sept. 14.

Admission is by donation with all proceeds going to benefit the on-going restoration projects at the Historic Liberty Theater.
