Title (Max 100 Characters)
CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The Southern Illinois Irish Festival is sponsoring their annual Taste of the Grain on Saturday, January 19 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Copper Dragon, next to Pinch Penny Pub in Carbondale.
The fundraising event features a Scottish single malt whisky tasting, appetizers, and live music on Scottish pipes, harp, flute, keyboard, and guitar. Tickets are $30 per person (must be 21 or over). Advance reservations are recommended by calling Mike Shanahan at 549-3090.
The occasion for this celebration of Scottish music and drink is the 254th birthday of Scotland's great poet and songwriter, Robert Burns, composer of the song that was sung worldwide on New Year's Eve, "Auld Lang Syne." His birthday has become a day for celebrating all things Scottish. The tasting will include whiskies from the lowlands and the highlands of Scotland, and a single malt from Ireland for comparison.
More information is available on the Festival website, www.silirishfest.org.
