You can buy tickets now for General and Mrs. Logan's Grand Ball Nov. 10 | Community Spirit

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - The General John A. Logan Museum is pleased to announce that ladies in formal hooped gowns and gentlemen in 1860s formal attire will grace the dance floor at the General and Mrs. Logan’s Grand Ball on November 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The annual event held at the Murphysboro Event Center is a special one-of-kind experience in Murphysboro and has become a unique way to support the General Logan Museum.

“If you have never attended the Grand Ball you have missed one of the region’s premier social events and a whole lot of fun," said Michael Jones, director of the Logan Museum.

Organizers say the dance helps the General Logan Museum preserve the heritage of the region and allows those attending to step back in time. At the ball some participants wear Civil War uniforms, tuxedos and Civil War era gowns while dancing to live music with a caller walking them through the steps. Others just enjoy the music and historically accurate moves on the dance floor.

“The dancing is easy to do and a great time whether you are dancing or just watching," Jones said. "Some people get all dressed up but others come casual, it is a great time for a great cause.”

For the ladies, the Logan Museum has dresses that are available for rent, however it is first come first serve. Uniforms and dresses can also be rented from Creatures of Habit at 406 Broadway in Paducah, Ky.

This is a very popular event and due to limited space at the venue tickets are limited to the first 100 requests.

Tickets are $30 each and may be purchased by mail from the General John A. Logan Museum
