CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Members of "Speaking and Teaching" and several other registered student organizations will present the third annual "Carbondale Youth Showcase November 14 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The showcase will be in the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Student Center Ballrooms.

Speakers at the event will include: Chancellor Rita Cheng, Mayor, Joel Fritzler, Dean of Students, Dr. Peter Gitau, District 95 Superintendent, Michael Shimshak, and many others.

There will also be various Student Organizations introducing groups at the event, as well as over 150 children performing, from kindergardners through seventh graders. Lastly, they will have special performances from our communities very own Carbondale High School. 

Among the events at the showcase, will be a school supply-drive, in which all supplies provided will be donated to several after school programs in the Carbondale community as well as school’s in Bangladesh, Kenya and many more. All donations will be intended to assist in providing children with classroom necessities, as well as to assist them in pursing their education and dreams. The S.I.U.C football team will also be signing autographs for the children at the end of the showcase. Organizers will also have a raffle in which they will be raffling off a brand new pair of pro-beats by Dre. These have a retail value of $399.

The proceeds will be donated to Perry Jackson Child Advocacy Center and the Williamson County Child Advocacy Center.

Organizers say they are hoping to showcase the talents of children with this event. They say they want this to be an inspiration to all children, and show them how important it is to recognize their gifts.
