Carbondale's 'Brown Bag Concert Series' brings blues to the stage

 

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The Brown Bag Concert Series is bringing musicians and families to downtown Carbondale.  

The concerts are held every Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Carbondale Town Square Pavilion.

The concert series was created 23-years-ago in an effort to give the local community a break from their daily routine to enjoy downtown Carbondale.

Every Wednesday in May and June, the weekly Brown Bag Concert Series will feature local musicians. 

On May 29, there will be music from Marty’s Band from Herrin, Ill. who focuses on the genre of blues.

'Free Dentistry Day' May 31 in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - People in the Carbondale area can receive free limited dental work on May 31 as part of Free Dentistry Day.

People needing dental work can receive one free extraction or one free filling at University Place Dental at 1366 East Main Street on Friday, May 31.

Free Dentistry Day is dedicated providing dental care to the growing number of Americans without dental insurance.

Dr. Bryan Goldesberry and his team at University Place Dental, along with the assistance of Dr. Jodi Braid, Dr. Shahid Sharar, Dr. Jordan Spencer and Dr. Matt Kasiar, will be improving the oral health of those in need.

Carbondale Farmers Market to open May 4

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The Carbondale Farmers Market will open May 4 at 1301 East Walnut Street in the Carbondale Community High School parking lot at 9 a.m.

The market runs every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This week's market will feature a variety of certified organic and sustainably grown fresh produce and herbs, free-range eggs, mushrooms, edible flowers, as well as vegetable and flower starting plants from the Carbondale Community High School FFA.

CCFM offers direct-to-customer market opportunities for organic, sustainable and conventional local farmers, as well as booth space for area artisans and community organizations. Volunteer opportunities focused on education and outreach are available.

The community is invited to mark their calendars and plan to attend the official CCFM Grand Opening on June 15 at 9 a.m.

Carbondale Chamber to host ribbon cutting April 30

JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The Carbondale Chamber of Commerce will hold a Ribbon Cutting on Tuesday, April 30 at 5 p.m. at The Place located inside of University Mall.

This new Southern Illinois Healthcare facility is designed to help community members find helpful resources for their health and well-being. An open house will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a ceremony and Ribbon Cutting at 5 p.m. Hors d'oeuvres, refreshments and music will be provided.

This event is open to the public.

Carbondale Lions Club Pancake Days April 27-28

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The Carbondale Lions Club Pancake Days will be Saturday, April 27 from 7 a.m. to 1 .m. and Sunday, April 28 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event will be at the town square freight pavilion in downtown Carbondale near the intersection of Main Street and Illinois Avenue.

You can buy tickets from any Lions Club member or at the door on Pancake Days. Adults are $5 and children under 12 are $3.
