Shoppers come out to raise money for the American Cancer Society

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - Tis’ the shopping season, and the season of giving to those who are in need.

Shoppers who were looking for that perfect holiday gift found plenty to choose from at this year’s One-stop Holiday Shop in Murphysboro.

The event is just part of the fund raising efforts of the city of Murphysboro’s Relay for Life team to help the American Cancer Society.

Even Santa Claus and the Mrs. were on hand to help out the cause.

“It’s touched all of our hearts personally,” said Leslie McComb with Murphysboro’s Relay for Life. “We’ve all been affected one way or another by cancer. And we actually have a couple of people on our team that are some are in remission, some are survivors. So, it's very personal."

The team is very successful with its fundraisers for the American Cancer Society raising on average of $10,000 annually.
