Bark for Life events in Carbondale, Murphysboro

JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The American Cancer Society Bark for Life will be in Carbondale on Saturday, April 13 and in Murphysboro on Saturday, April 20.

In Carbondale, the event will be at the SIU Campus Lake Trail, starting at the boat dock. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the event begins at 9 a.m. It costs $15 to pre-register online and $20 the day of the event (per dog).

In Murphysboro, the event will be at Riverside Park. Registration begins at 2 p.m. and the event begins at 3 p.m. The event celebrates canines as caregivers.

Bark for Life is an American Cancer Society fundraiser that honors the caregiving qualities of our canine companions.

KCB seeks Bright Spot Award nominations

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Keep Carbondale Beautiful would like to remind the community of our monthly Bright Spot Award.

KCP says winter must subside at some point, and then outdoor activities will include landscaping, gardens, and other warm-weather projects. If you would like to nominate a business or residence for the Bright Spot – please email BrightSpotAward@gmail.com to give the address and reason for nomination.

Good candidates for the Bright Spot Award include businesses and residences that have undergone recent improvements, renovations, and landscaping.  Also consider the property that brings a smile to your face, or that you walk past a little more slowly than others.

Carbondale Chamber to host ribbon cutting March 27

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The Carbondale Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting Wednesday March 27 at 4 p.m.

The ribbon cutting will be at the H Group, located at 2311 S. Illinois Avenue in Carbondale.

The public is invited to join chamber members and community members to welcome the H Group into their new location in Carbondale. A reception will follow.

Carbondale Chamber to host ribbon cutting March 25

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The Carbondale Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting on Monday, March 25 at 4:30 p.m. at El Greco in Carbondale.

The restaurant is located at 516 South Illinois Avenue.

The chamber says it re-opened under new ownership recently. Guests are invited to come for a ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m. and then stay for dinner. Come check out the updated space and enjoy tasty gyros with El Greco.

This event is open to the public.

Carbondale Farmer’s Market to start 38th season a week early

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -  The Carbondale Farmer’s Market has been providing fresh, high-quality local food to the region for 38 years now.

This year, the market will start one week early from its customary April opening, meaning that they will offer locally-grown and crafted goods from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 30.

The market provides a wide variety of seasonal produce along with grass-fed and -finished beef; artisanal cheeses; hand-made vintage jewelry;  locally-produced crafts; colorful cut flowers; plants for garden and landscaping; fresh herbs and more.

This year Carbondale Farmers Market is excited to offer more variety with Wild Alaskan Salmon, pastured poultry and eggs as well as gourmet mushrooms – all of which will be available at the Saturday, March 30 market.

Market farmers bring generations of growing expertise in order to provide some of the freshest, most nutritious, local food around.

This year, to celebrate the 5th year, we're adding a 12K!

U of I Extension sponsors 4-H Summer Camp

FRANKLIN COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -  According to University of Illinois Extension, the 4-H Memorial Camp in Monticello, Illinois is the perfect place for your child to experience the finest in summer camp life. 

They have traditional and innovative programs, professional staff and comfortable facilities await campers at 4-H Memorial.

Summer youth camp is open to all youth ages 8-16 years.  Following with the 4-H mission to foster positive youth development through a “learn-by-doing” philosophy, campers experience a five-day, four-night camp full of activities and learning.  Swimming, boating, hiking, arts & crafts, fishing, singing, volleyball, softball, the list goes on and on!

Four summer youth camps will be operated June and July.
