MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - The 4th Annual Cabin Fever Show will be Saturday, February 23 at the Historic Liberty Theater in downtown Murphysboro.

This year’s featured artists include:

Wil Maring & Robert Bowlin - Award-winning singer-songwriter Wil Maring and world-class guitarist and fiddler Robert Bowlin combine their talents, smoothly blending elements from all roots music genres to create an original acoustic music all their own.

Carter & Connelly-with friends - Curt Carter and Tom Connelly have been called “Illinois’ Preeminent Folk Warriors”.Performing together since 1988, their music has seen a wide range of venues from live radio, club, coffeehouse and festival performances to political and environmental awareness benefits. For this year’s Cabin Fever Concert, the duo will be joined by their friends Mila Maring, Kelley Sims, Geoff Maring and Mark Stoffel.

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The featured presenter at the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce's monthly membership luncheon on February 19 at noon will be Cavanaugh Gray, founder of The Entrepreneur Cafe, LLC.

Gray, a former Carbondale resident, will share “Mission Success: Mission Statements that drive company success.” Based upon his research of companies of all sizes and in all industries, Gray has discovered that a powerful, well-written mission statement is absolutely critical for success. He will share how mission statements can impact and influence team members, stake holders and customers alike.

Gray has more than 15 years of specialized business training and business development experience with a focus on small to medium-sized enterprises. He is the author of “The Entrepreneurial Spirit Lives: 25 Tales to Help Entrepreneurs Start, Grow and Succeed in Small Business.”

Nonviolent Carbondale to hold '11 Days for Food Justice' events

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Nonviolent Carbondale, a coalition of citizens and organizations, has planned another 11 Days event.

From Feb. 21 through March 3, the 11 Days for Food Justice will include over 30 events, happening throughout the city. Sponsored by various community organizations, there will be a variety of speakers, movies, workshops, and discussions.

Information about the 11 Days for Food Justice, including a full list of events, can be found on the website http://www.nonviolentcarbondale.org/.

“The idea came from the University," said Jessica Bradshaw, chair of the Carbondale Human Relations Commission. "This year, most of SIU’s incoming freshmen read selections from a book called Reclaiming our Food, by Tanya Denckla Cobb, a primer on food issues."

Boys and Girls Club of Carbondale to host trivia fundraiser Feb. 21

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The Boys and Girls Club of Carbondale is hosting a fundraising event Thursday, February 21 called Trivia Night at the Oscars, with questions about past and present Oscar nominees and winners.

It will be held at 6 p.m. at Copper Dragon, 700 E Grand Ave, Carbondale, Ill. Tickets are $35 (or $280 for a table of eight) and include dinner catered by Great Boars of Fire.

Each member of the winning team will receive wine, a theater gift card and an Oscar trophy. Mulligans will be available. Other activities include a cash bar, silent auction and a 50/50 raffle.

Trivia Night March 9 to benefit Murphysboro animal shelter

MURPHSYBORO, IL (KFVS) - The St. Francis Care Animal Shelter will hold a Trivia Night March 9.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the trivia starts at 7 p.m. It will be at the Elks Lodge in Murphysboro. Proceeds will go to helping the animals at the shelter.

Teams of eight are $120. There will be a Top Team prize, silent auction and 50/50 raffle.

Art opening, reception Feb. 15 in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - An Art Opening Reception will be February 15 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Longbranch Coffeehouse in Carbondale.

The event will feature work by Joan Skiver-Levy. She uses mixed medium Pastiche with over 50 pieces on display of water/color collage. Other performances at the reception include Joyce Hesketh on the harp and Joan Skiver-Levy singing love songs.

The exhibition will be up until April 1.

Murphysboro to have first ever Student Showcase Banquet

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - The Murphysboro Education Foundation will hold their Student Showcase Banquet on March 2.

The banquet will be a showcase to the students and their many talents. You can be soothed with the performance by the Murphysboro High School Jazz Band, enchanted with a medley sung by the High School Theatre group and inspired by an Art Exhibit created by the students.

Food at the event will be prepared and served by the High School Culinary Arts Students.

In addition to showing pride in the students and their talents, the Murphysboro Education Foundation will use the event to introduce its intent in serving the community.

The Student Showcase Banquet will be held in the Murphysboro High School Cafeteria with the doors opening at 5:30 p.m. The Banquet will begin at 6:15 p.m. and end at 8:15 p.m.
