Carbondale police searching for forgery suspects

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The City of Carbondale is looking for suspects in connection with forgery of a bank.

On March 18 around 2:28 p.m., officers responded to a bank in the 200 block of East Main Street. Officers learned the suspects had just tried to cash checks which were stolen from an area business.

Police say the suspects were described as two Hispanic males and they have yet to be identified or found.

The investigation is ongoing.

Carbondale police searching for credit card theft suspect

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The City of Carbondale Police Department is asking for the public's help finding a suspect in connection with a report of a credit card theft.

During the course of the investigation, officers say they learned that a suspect used the credit card at a business in the 200 block of South Wall Street on April 19. They say the suspect is described as a black male. The investigation into the incident is continuing.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Carbondale Police Department at 457-3200 Crime Stoppers at 549-COPS (2677). Anonymous tips can also be made by selecting the “Crime Stoppers” tab located on the Police Department website.

Matteson, Ill. man arrested for unlawful use of a weapon

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - A Matteson, Ill. man was arrested early Friday morning after someone reported at person with a gun to Carbondale police.

Christopher A. Mitchell, 19, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, resisting, no FOID, underage consumption of alcohol and false ID.

According to Carbondale police, around 1:55 a.m. on Friday they reported to the area of the 700 block of East Grand Avenue and received information about someone inside a vehicle in possession of a gun.

Police say as they approached the vehicle, one of the occupants ran on foot, but was caught after a short chase and arrested. They say a gun was recovered during the incident.

Mitchell was taken to the Jackson County Jail and incarcerated.

According to police, several people are known to have witnessed this incident but have not spoken with them at this time.

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - A man was arrested April 29 after running from police.

Nickoliest A. Brown was charged with armed violence, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, resisting, possession and manufacture cannabis investigation.

According to the Carbondale Police Department, around 2:25 p.m. on April 29 officers were in the 700 block of North Robert A. Stalls Avenue and saw three men gambling near the street. As officers approached them, they say one man, with a gun, ran.

Police say they caught the man after a short chase and arrested him. He was identified as Nickoliest Brown.

Brown was taken to the Jackson  County Jail and incarcerated.

The other two suspects were described as black males. Police say they ran from the scene and have not been found. The investigation into the incident is continuing.

Sexual assault suspect turns himself in to Carbondale police

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - A man charged with sexual assault has turned himself in to the Carbondale Police Department.

On April 18, Shamar S. Scales, 21, turned himself in to police in reference to a report of sexual assault. Officers served to warrants on Scales for the incident. He was arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail.

According to police, on April 6, they responded to the 400 block of West Oak in reference to a report of a sexual assault. Officers say they learned the victim has been sexually assaulted by an aquaintance.

On April 12, they responded to the 900 block of East Park and learned a second victim has been sexually assualted by an acquaintance, who was determined to be the same suspect in the first report.

Officers got arrest warrants for the suspect, identified as Scales, charging him with criminal sexual assault in each of the investigations. Bail was set at $200,000 for each warrant.

Arbuckle makes first court appearance on murder charges

JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A Carbondale man made his first appearance in court Tuesday on an indictment charging him in three separate counts with first degree murder and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Kely Y. Arbuckle, 25, had previously been charged with the same counts and was scheduled to appear in Jackson County Circuit Court in Murphysboro Tuesday for a preliminary hearing. The indictment took the place of a preliminary hearing.

Jackson County state's attorney announces sentences on 4 crimes

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -  Jackson County State's Attorney Michael C. Carr announced several suspects were sentenced recently for various crimes.

Tyree McQueen-Johnson, 21, of Carbondale was sentenced to four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the illegal sale of two firearms. McQueen-Johnson told police he sold two stolen shotguns for $300.

Orlando N. Clark, 37, of Carbondale was sentenced to two four year terms to the Illinois Department of Corrections for unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. Clark pleaded guilty to delivering cocaine to a confidential source.

Jesse D. Caraway, 34, of Carbondale was convicted of driving while license suspended. He was released on $300 bond pending sentencing.
