CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - A 21-year-old was arrested Sunday after police broke up a house party of about 400 people.

Tesheema S. Ross, 21 from Maywood, Ill., was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting a peace officer. Ross was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

On Sunday, Aug. 26 police say they were in the area of the 800 block of West Walnut Street and found a large house party of about 400 people in violation of several city ordinances, including amplified sound.

Officers say they made contact with the resident, Qasim O. Sowemimo, to try to end the party. During the investigation, police say guests under the age of 21 were found with alcohol and were issued citations. Sowemimo was issued a citation for responsibility of persons control of a premise.

According to the police department, as the party guests were leaving, a disturbance ensued near the intersection of West Walnut Street and South James Street. During the disturbance, police say Tesheema Ross was arrested for aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting a peace officer.
