Man arrested after police say he hit a man, woman walking across street | Crime

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Carbondale police arrested a man Sunday after they say he hit a man and woman crossing South Wall Street and left the scene.

Mohammed R. Almarri, 19, was charged with no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. He was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

Police say they responded to the intersection of South Wall Street and East Mill Street on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 2 a.m. in reference to a report of a traffic crash involving a pedestrian and a car that fled the scene.

When officers arrived, they found a man and woman had been hit by a car as they walked across South Wall Street. Police say the woman was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious injuries and the man declined medical treatment.
