SIUC to hold 9/11 Day of Remembrance and Service

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Southern Illinois University Carbondale will hold a 9/11 Day of Remembrance and Service on Tuesday, September 11 to give people an opportunity to express their appreciation to area veterans and first responders.

The university says from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the main breezeway along Farner Hall, students, faculty, staff and the community will be able to stop and make appreciation cards for veterans and local firefighters and police. The service project is free and supplies will be provided.

The Center for Service Learning and Volunteerism is sponsoring the event.

According to SIUC, organizers will distribute the cards to local first responders and veterans. The cards will go to local police and firefighters in the area, the SIU Carbondale Veterans Center and to veterans at the Marion VA Medical Center.

For more information about the event or the Center for Service Learning and Volunteerism, visit the office on the third floor of the Student Center or call 618/453-5714.
