More than 400 prospective students to visit SIUC for scholarship interview weekend | Events
CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Southern Illinois University Carbondale says more than 400 prospective students from 15 states, accompanied by family members, will visit their campus for the Chancellor's Scholarship Interview Weekend Friday and Saturday, January 11 and 12.
According to SIUC, the weekend presents an opportunity for the families to learn about the University first-hand and for the students to interview for their chance at one of 35 Chancellor’s Scholarships, the most prestigious scholarship offered by SIU Carbondale. The high school students qualified for the scholarship interviews based on their scores on the ACT college entrance examination, grade point average, and leadership potential.
“We are excited to welcome these future Salukis and their families to the campus,” Chancellor Rita Cheng said. “We expect more than 1,100 people to participate, so this is a wonderful opportunity to showcase what the University and the community have to offer.”
Students and their parents will begin arriving Friday afternoon. That evening, a panel of faculty, staff and students will hold a “campus conversation” with parents, discussing various aspects of campus life. Students will be treated to a wide assortment of activities in the Student Center.
Scholarship interviews take place throughout the day Saturday. Other activities will include campus tours and college showcases, in which the students and parents can meet college deans and faculty and learn more about the University’s eight colleges. Also scheduled are mini-classes as well as interest sessions, with topics ranging from student life to undergraduate research to Living Learning Communities in University Housing.
Then on Saturday evening, students and parents will be guests of the University as the Saluki men’s basketball team takes on the Indiana State Sycamores at 7:05 p.m. in the SIU Arena.
