MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - The Jackson County Health Department will be holding supermarket tours to show area families using Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children how to make health choices at the store on a limited budget.
The tours will be held at the Murphysboro Wal-Mart Supercenter. Advanced registration is required.
During the event, "Shopping Matters for WIC Parents," participants will receive hands-on practice on how to find WIC foods at the store, maximize the amount of produce they get for their WIC vouchers, compare unit prices, read food labels and pick out whole grains.
The tour was developed based on input from experts on WIC program and research showing that careful food shopping practices, such as price comparison and nutrition label use, are associated with measures of better dietary quality.
