Fire dept. asks for public's help with suspicious fires in Murphysboro neighborhood | News
MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - The Murphysboro Fire Department says the city has recently experienced a rash of small, but suspicious fires in the same neighborhood.
The fire department says the first incident was a yard and bush on fire in the 2000 block of Pine Street near 20th Street on Tuesday, May 15. They say it was first reported at 3:22 a.m.
The second fire was as the Sallie Logan Library on May 17 at 1 a.m. The fire department says it consisted of mulch and a bush being ignited.
The last reported incident was in the 1800 block of Pine Street on May 24 at 7:30 p.m. where a chair on the front porch was lit on fire.
If anyone has any information about these fires or have noticed any suspicious activity during the times listed above, you can contact the Murphysboro Police Department at 618-684-2121 or the Murphysboro Fire Department at 618-684-3991. They ask that you also alert the police of any future suspicious activity in this or any other area of town.
Any information that leads to a conviction of arson may be eligible for a reward through the Illinois Advisory Committee on Arson Prevention.
