CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS)- The heat wave baking the Heartland
isn't slowing down a group building a new church in Carbondale.
Over the past week in
triple digit temperatures, members of the "Builders for Christ" and
members of the Olivet Free Will Baptist Church are hammering away on the new
church.
Throughout the week the
crews shift in and out of the heat to avoid getting sick.
Church leaders say they
are thankful for all the help.
"The help they've given
us God gave them and sent them on a mission to help us," said Kendall
Woods of Olivet Free Will Baptist Church. "If it hadn't been for them we
would not be building the building that we're building at this time."
The old church building
will eventually be torn down.
The congregation plans on
using some of the bricks to build a bell tower for the church bell which is from
the churches first sanctuary back in 1886.
