3 arrested after 5 shotguns stolen from Jeep

GORHAM, IL (KFVS)- Three people were arrested after several shotguns were stolen from a vehicle near Gorham on Labor Day.

James L. Smith, 26, Little Joe Smith, 37, both of Jonesboro and Jamie Lynn Smith, 21, of Anna faces charges of auto burglary and felony theft.

Someone called the Jackson County Sheriff's Office around 5:11 p.m. Monday to report a theft in progress at 195 N. Spillway Road (Kinkaid Spillway) in rural Gorham.

The caller told police a white male wearing a hoodie jacket broke out the window to his 2003 Jeep Cherokee while it sat in the parking lot. The suspect removed five shotguns from the cargo area of the Jeep and jumped into an older model Mercedes car that was pulling a silver Jon boat. Two white males and a white females were in the car.

An Illinois Department of Natural Resources officer spotted the suspected vehicle as it traveled southbound on Highway 3 and stopped the car.

All three suspects were in the car. Officers recovered the stolen shotguns.

The suspects were taken to the Jackson County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
