CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS)- The September 11 attacks also had a big effect in the Heartland.
To honor those who served in the military and local first
responders, students at Southern Illinois University made appreciation
cards.
Organizers will later distribute the cards to places
like the SIU Veterans Center, the Marion VA Medical Center, and the
Carbondale Police Department.
"It's just a way that the students
can give back to the community, to the veterans, to the first
responders, to the firefighters to keep us safe and protect us on a
daily basis," said Jennifer Seaman, and SIU student. "So it's just a way
they can take time out of their schedule to just think about them
and remember what they do for us."
While many local first
responders may not have been directly affected by the attacks,
organizers say appreciating what police and firefighters do is
important.
