One man accused of stealing from Murphysboro home

JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - One man is in custody after he allegedly robbed a home and fled from police in Murphysboro, Ill. Monday night.

Police arrested Ian T. Collins, 18, of Murphysboro after chasing him into a wooded area at around midnight. 

According to the Murphysboro Police Department, the burglary happened at around 11:45 p.m. on Westwood Lane.  They say a man kicked in the door of a home and stole cash and jewelry.  

While at the home, he was confronted by the residents living there.  Police say Collins threatened the residents with a knife before leaving the home.  The couple then called 911.  

When police responded, they found Collins and chased him into a wooded area.  He was caught and arrested shortly afterwards. 

Collins is charged with home invasion, armed violence, residential burglary, theft over $500, and resisting a police officer.  He was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

His bond is $50,000/$5,000 cash.
