CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Carbondale's mayor says the city will get a new firehouse in the near future.
According to Mayor Joel Fritzler, the city gave final approval Tuesday night for new firehouse in Carbondale.
The location of the building will be west side of Carbondale, just north of Walgreens.
Fritzler says the city will close Fire Station 2 near Schnucks, and hope to have new building done within the next year.
Crews are expected to break ground in the next couple of weeks on the project. Fritzler says the building will cost a little over $3 million.
The mayor says a business from Murphysboro has been contracted to do the work.
