CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The Carbondale Police Department says they will be conducting extra patrols during the weekend of Friday, January 25 through Sunday, January 27 to curtail impaired drivers and violators of City alcohol ordinances.
Carbondale Police officers will be working with increased focus on DUI violations to deter impaired drivers and arrest anyone who is driving while impaired. Police say always designating a sober driver and not letting friends drive impaired are just two simple steps to help avoid a tragic crash or a costly arrest for impaired driving.
Additionally, in an effort to prevent DUI violations and other alcohol-related crimes, Carbondale Police officers will be taking a zero tolerance stance with regards to alcohol violations, including:
- Public Possession/Consumption of Alcohol, CRC 2-5-5, with fines between $50-$750
- Underage Possession/Consumption of Alcohol, CRC 2-5-10, with fines between $250-$750
- Transporting or Possessing Open Alcohol in a Vehicle, CRC 18-5-1, with a fine of $120
According to police, alcohol not only dangerously impairs your driving skills; it also impairs your judgment. If you see friends under the influence of alcohol, make sure you don’t let them get behind the wheel. Drive sober or get pulled over.
