CCTB welcomes new executive director | News
CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The Carbondale Convention and Tourism Bureau announced they are proud to officially welcome their recently hired Executive Director, Cinnamon Wheeles-Smith.
Wheeles-Smith is a native of Carbondale, and spent much of her youth involved in city activities. After moving out of the area for a few years, she is enthusiastic to be back in her hometown and even more excited to enhance her community through tourism.
“Carbondale has always had a tremendous amount to offer our visitors and I’m very excited to have the opportunity to partner with the community to promote and grow our local economy through tourism,” Wheeles-Smith said. “I am extremely honored to have been selected to serve the citizens of Carbondale.”
Wheeles-Smith's passion for the community, history in sales and retail management, infectious personality, and hard-working mentality make her the ideal candidate for the position. She looks forward to exploring all entities of the city that relate to tourism, and bringing them home to make sure that the city is represented and promoted in the best way possible.
The Carbondale Convention and Tourism Bureau reopened its doors on Oct. 1, 2012, with the hire of its Office Manager Leah Stover. Since that time, the Bureau has supported two larger events, the English Springer Spaniel Opener and the Carbondale Community High School Holiday Tournament, and has worked toward redesigning its website.
Wheeles-Smith said the Bureau is currently involved in several projects, including a new marketing campaign to rebrand the Bureau. She said the Carbondale community has a lot to look forward to in the upcoming months, so make sure and keep your eyes peeled.
The CCTB Office is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, until April when it will be open on Saturdays too.
