Carbondale high school to coordinate mock crash on football field Feb. 15

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The Teen Safe Driving Initiative will be Friday, February 15 at 9:30 a.m. in Carbondale.

The Carbondale Community High School Lifesavers organization in conjunction with the state initiative, Operation Teen Safe Driving is working with our School Resource Officer, Barry Bayles, to coordinate a mock crash incident on the football field that morning.

Students will see what texting and driving can do as they witness an accident that has been created right before their eyes.  Officer Bayles is working with our Driver’s Education teacher and Wellness Coordinator, Kim Wheeler, to create this scenario while also incorporating video that has been created at the courthouse and emergency room.

Any questions about this event should be directed to Officer Bayles at 618-713-4067.

Special thanks to the Jackson County Ambulance Service, Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, and Express Towing for their help with this event.
